Primary set the table for township, county
PUBLISHED: October 23, 2008
The August primary election mostly set the table for Ypsilanti Township elected officials over the next four years. All elected positions heading into the Nov. 4 general election are running unopposed as no Republicans filed for the available seats of supervisor, clerk, trustees and treasurer.

Clerk Brenda Stumbo after more than 16 years on the board decided to throw her hat into the supervisor's ring and won the primary election over incumbent and former State House Rep. Ruth Ann Jamnick with more than 56 percent of the vote.
Stumbo, who was a trustee for four years before elected as clerk in 1992, credited her success to the hard work of her political team and expressed her sincere gratitude to the voters.
"I had no idea how many people were praying for me," Stumbo said. "I had many people come up to me and say, 'We're praying for you Brenda," it was just very humbling. I am so thankful to have this opportunity."
Soon-to-be-vacated Washtenaw County Commissioner D-4 Karen Lovejoy-Roe decided not to run again for her seat instead filing for Ypsilanti Township clerk, where she ran against current Trustee David Ostrowski. Lovejoy-Roe won nearly 60 percent of the vote over Ostrowski.
There will also be a new face on the board in Mike Martin who ran as a Democrat for the Trustee seat vacated by Ostrowski. The other three incumbents all won back their seats during the primary and will face no opposition in the upcoming election: Stan Eldridge, Jean Hall-Currie and Dee Sizemore.
Longtime board member Larry Doe ran unopposed for his seat as treasurer.
Washtenaw County
There are two Washtenaw County Commissioners representing the city of Ypsilanti and parts of Ypsilanti Township who ran unopposed in the August primary and will again run unopposed on Nov. 4 barring a write-in campaign.
Rolland Sizemore Jr., D-5, and Ronnie Peterson, D-6, have a combined 14 years of experience on the Board of Commissioners. Peterson currently serves on the Foster Grandparent Advisory Board (alternate) and the Retirement Commission, while Sizemore serves on the Community Action Board, Head Start Policy Council, Parks and Recreation Commission and other boards.
District 4 - which comprises parts of Ypsilanti Township, Augusta Township, York Township and Milan - is being contested by longtime staple of county politics and former Board Commissioner Wes Prater on the Democratic ticket and former Milan city mayor Owen Diaz on the Republican ticket.
The District 4 seat was vacated by Ypsilanti Township resident Karen Lovejoy Roe when she decided to throw her hat into the race for Ypsilanti Township clerk.
