District 4 seat up for grabs in November

PUBLISHED: October 9, 2008

In District 4, voters will have to make a tough decision between a longtime staple of Washtenaw County politics or a two-term mayor, for a two-year term post overseeing county business for Milan, York Township, Augusta Twp and portions of Ypsilanti Township. The seat is currently held by Karen Lovejoy Roe, who decided to not run again instead running for and winning a Democratic primary battle for Ypsilanti Township clerk.

Personal: Age 62, married, three children, three grandchildren.

Elected office sought: Washtenaw County Commissioner, 4th District.

Political affiliation: Republican.

Residence: City of Milan

Occupation: Administrator for two medical clinics, and a business owner.

Two key issues: Washtenaw County budget deficit and promote Alternative Fuel Research Park.

Summary of each issue:

Budget deficit -- Increase efficiency in the county and municipal level through collaboration and elimination of duplicate services to have a centralized county emergency dispatch, and other services. These can save tax dollars and promote efficiency in both the county and local governments.

Hydrogen Fuel Mega Research Park -- When elected, I will propose a plan to create a regional collaborative environment to be a catalyst for the development of commercially viable hydrogen-fueled engines, and efficient and safe fuel distribution methods, with the help of SPARK, MEDC, and state and federal legislators.

There is a federal budget for this type of endeavor, which will make us regain our automotive leadership, the jobs that we lost, revenue for our state, and independence from foreign oil producers.
