Students recognized for achievements

Program includes students from wide range of area schools

Approximately 300 students from Willow Run, Lincoln Consolidated, Ypsilanti, Saline and Whitmore Lake schools were honored when the Regional Career Technical Center held its annual awards ceremonies at Willow Run Middle School's auditorium. Two ceremonies were held, in order to honor both morning and afternoon sessions of the programs.

Lucy Ann Lance of WAAM Talk Radio 1600 was the guest speaker. Bob Wilkinson, Ypsilanti Public Schools' Director of Auxiliary Programs, served as master of ceremonies.

Four students were presented with scholarships in construction technology. From the Home Builders Association of Washtenaw County, April Moore of Ypsilanti High School received a $1500 top scholarship; Christ Schubert of Lincoln High School received a $1000 scholarship; and Steve Renodin of Lincoln High School received books and tuition for a class at Washtenaw Community College.

Delane Kersey of Ypsilanti High was named the Construction Technology Student of the Year by the Michigan Construction Teachers Association and received a $300 grant. He also received a $750 scholarship from the Ypsilanti Contractors and Suppliers Association. In addition, Kersey was the recipient of the Principal's Award, given only when a student had achieved straight As and perfect attendance in the same year. This was Kersey's second year of perfect attendance.

The classes came forward individually and students received certificates competency, which required the students master to objectives of the class at a level of 80 percent or higher, and certificates of credential, which show all the areas of study the students could master, and those they did master.

Mike Mitchell, Computer Technologies instructor, passed out certificates to James Gerken, Nathan Hawley, Shane Barber, Michael Beasley, Ron Crawford, Jeremy Culp, Everge Dickens, Alex Flemon, Leroy Hines, Brandon Harding, Jay Irving, Christopher Stephens, Mohamed Nuh, Steve Weber,

Daouda Camara, Andrew Anders, Cassandra Anderson, Corey Byrd, Joseph Ervin, Dwayne Holmes, James Holmes, Roy Thompkins, Chris Boring, Justene Claphan-Bailey, Tim Cottenham, Joseph Hoag, Jordan Perfetto, Aaron, Van Hoffman, Brian Baker, Mark Coleman, Kyle Gaylor, Joseph Johnson, John Manley, and John Mulder.

Culinary Arts and Hospitality Instructor Joni Eastworth, aided by her assistant, Amy Husketh, presented certificates to Justin Dunn, Martell Fonville, Ryan Hughes, Deanna Houge-Alexander, Patrick Smith, Mohamed Toure, Donne Wells, Aleisea Williams, Keine Winston;

Matt Bates, Aliccia Benson, Krystie Brandon, Rosetta Burns, Tia Glass, Mark Jackson, Jaquanese Peters, Antuan Reid, Ashley Reed, Hannah Stachlewitz, Sara Stephens, Chaz Walls and Chris Thomas-Peoples.

In Construction Technology, Instructor John Birko and his assistant, Josh Angle, gave certificates and additional honors to several students: Delane Kersey was honored by being named a Student of the Marking Period, Student of the Month, All As Student and having perfect attendance. Jon Higgs was named Student of the Marking Period, All As Student, and Future Star. Chris Owens received Student of the Month, All As Student and Future Star honors. Chris Randolph was honored as Student of the Marking Period, Most Improved Performer and Future Star. Chris Schubert received recognition for being the Student of the Month, All As Student and got the Citizenship Award.

Steve Murninghan was named Student of the Month and Most Improved Performer. Keith Zimmerman received Student of the Month and Most Improved Performer honors. Terran Pittman was named Student of the Month and Student of the Marking Period. Stephanii Wells was honored as Student of the Month and for having perfect attendance.

Also honored were Javon Collier Jake Meyer, Jeremy Sirois, Jon Robbins, and Joe Smith for being Students of the Month. Vincent Pisoni and Aaron Gamboe received High Achiever honors and Jeremy Hemphill was named a Future Star.

The following students received their certificates in Construction Technology: Andrew Bledsoe, Glenn Bradley, Alec Brookover, Nick Elka, Pierre Evans, Ron Hyde, Daniel McGlough, April Moore, Steve Smith, Curtis Williams, Tim Andrews, Danny Buckner, Ryan Charara, Tony Cicotte, Andrew Gimson, Levi Hall, Alex Overall, Travis Parker, Steven Renodin, Core Robinette and Bryon Todd.

John Kingsley, instructor of Auto Mechanics, gave certificates to Deante Chapman, Jackie Copley, Jeremy Davidson, Anthony Glenn, Regina Glossett, Pat Hopkins, Mark Johnson, David King, Peter Wisnewieski, Kenneth Bowman, Joe Canter, Daniel Fryman, Jeremy Gregory, Lamar Hudson, Joel Lacoss, Alex Miller, Robby Oliver, Louie Pena, Nathan Perry, Joseph Piper, Clifford Rouse, Daniel Stokes, Casey Wallace and Travis Wilson.

Child Care Careers Instructor Sandy Balewski also gave out honors with the certificates. Eryca Hunt was honored as Student of the Third Marking period and Student of the Year. Nicole Fowler was Student of the Fifth Marking Period and Most Improved Student. Other students honored during marking periods were Jessica Mudge, Student of the Fourth Marking Period; Sheri Ewald, Student of the Second Marking Period; and Nikki Roberson, Student of the First Marking Period. Honored for Academic Achievement were Amanda Ford, Camille burke and Jessica Greene, who also had perfect attendance.

Others who received their certificates in child care were: Dionne Brooks, Mary Ellithorpe, Renee Herrell, Cara Jackson, Terri Robinson, Jacki Hemphill, Bethany Keskitalo, Kim Burke, Tristan Combs, Lori Cope, Crystal McIntosh, Nickelita Redic, Remi Reid, Sierra Smith, LaTanya Burrell, Alexis Gulley and Shanda McFall.

Health Occupations Instructor Angela Mryncza handed out certificates in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation as well as the other certificates, to Karen Ormsby, Ashlee New, Hiba Abdirahman, Julie Cardona, Tiffany Lewis, Katie Wright, Muna Abdirahman and Amanda Nichols.

Those receiving their certificates were Bolawesse Booto, Ashley Jones, Alana Drummond, Kenneth Drummond, Kyle Hunter, Michelle Muraviou, Gabrielle Snider, Audia Dixon, Tyra Jones-Williams, Rennae Morris, Ali Ayan, Tina Drotar, Pamela Foy, Laquisha Jones, Christina Gray, Tanisha Montgomery, Robin Moore and Ronda Seberry.

Graphics Arts Instructor Dennis Hyde and his assistant, Marilyn Bishop, honored Herika Emerson, Stephanie Odum, Christina Fairley and James Vinston as Students of the Marking Period. Others who received their certificates were: Akinkola Adams, Keyonta Addie, Jennifer Benson, Michael Buckner, Dont'e Cooper, Yilliam Cordeno-Cartin, Brett Derossett, Lumar Gordon, Romel A. McMullan, Alex Pomorski, Roy Ryan, Ronnie Saulsberry, Alex D. Sisson, Gareth Walters, Micah Bryant, Cornell Fairley, Victor Fletes, Knequat Gardner, James Guthrie, Robert Horton, Kelli Hunt, Kyle Mellinger, Jorge Falacio, Jessica Omer, Antonio Pharam, Leon Reed, Leland Rodriguez, Ambria S. Thurmond, Kenneth Tucker, Jesus Villarreal, Charles White, Sean Yargeau.

Collision Repair Technology Instructor Bill Burnette and his assistant, Rick Howlett, enlivened the proceedings with a light show and music during their presentation of awards. One student, D. J. Lundell, performed a cartwheel as he came across the stage to receive his awards.

Receiving honors as Students of the Marking Period and a $50 coupon from State of the Art Car Audio in addition to their certificates were: Lee Meadows, D. J. Lundell, Joshua M. Balden and Nick Stratz. Steve Avery also was a Student of the Marking Period. Others receiving the State of the Art coupon were: Robb Hamilton, Erik L. Gordon, Ellen M. Cannarsa, Savanna J. Waite, Stanley O. Waldrup, Blaine Walch-Potter and Ben Kohler.

RCTC honored several local citizens as "Friends of RCTC" for their support of the program. These were: David Behen, Washtenaw County Director of Information Technology; Rolland Sizemore, Washtenaw County Commissioner; Jeff Koepp, A. F. Smith Electric; John Murrel, Malloy Lithographic; Lynne Comazzi, Model Head Start; Lucy Ann Lance, WAAM; Mark Stabnau, and David Butler, Jim Luck and Zeke Towler, Ypsilanti Auto Parts, Tools & Paint.
