With an array of younger athletes this season, the Lincoln boys' varsity track team finished with a 1-2 record in dual meets, and then placed third at the Southeastern Conference meet at Chelsea on Tuesday.

Lincoln Senior Deon Casey won the shot put event with a mark of 46-feet. He also won the discuss event with a mark of 167-feet, 6-inches.
Junior Scott Rider won the 400-M with a finishing time of 51.7 seconds, and junior Adelayo Akinfenwa won the long jump with a leap of 20-feet, 6 ?-inches.
Ten-year coach Derek Gonzales said this is his youngest team yet at Lincoln. It's composed of mostly freshmen and sophomores, since the junior and senior classes are much smaller (it's been that way since they arrived at Lincoln.)
So with a couple of bigger and younger classes, recapturing the glory of three consecutive regional titles ('03-'05), which pumped out quite a few state qualifiers, may not be that far away for Gonzales.
"I think we'll be a little more competitive next year," Gonzales said. "We're probably two years away from being real tough again."
And for Casey, he's there already. Gonzales said his senior has "one of the better throws in the state" in the discuss event and he qualified for the state meet scheduled for Saturday, June 2 at East Kentwood High School in Grand Rapids.
"He's got a good shot," he said. "There's a couple of good guys, but he's right in there."
