The Willow Run Flyers had a rough week on the baseball diamond dropping five games in a row.
To start the week off the locals fell to Dearborn Heights Robichaud 10-0.
Last Tuesday they fell to Ecorse 12-10. Pitching ace Tyler Hamill did a good job on the mound.
Willow Run Coach Jeff Edwards was impressed with his performance.
"Our problem was our defense and the fact that we are such a young team," Edwards said. "He finished the season 5-3 and he really could have been 8-0. He is one of the most dominant pitchers in the league."
Sean Foster was 3-for-4 with three doubles and Richard Jackson was 3-for-4 with five RBI.
"It was a good game," he said. "It was really a back and forth battle."
On Thursday of last week in a makeup the Flyers fell to Dearborn Fordson 18-3 and 18-3.
The first game was in five innings and the second game went three innings.
"We just don't have the pitching," he said. "I lost my number two, three, four and five pitchers."
Willow Run wraps up the regular season with a 7-13 overall record and a 5-5 record in the Mega Gold. Last Tuesday they played Ypsilanti High in Division 2 pre-district game.
Phoenix takes it to Redford Union
At least there was one good thing for the Ypsilanti High softball team last week, the Phoenix did win the first game of the week dropping Redford Union 12-5.
It started out with each team trading runs until it was 3-3 going into the third inning.
"We ripped them after that," Ypsilanti Coach Ryan Minarek said.
Anna Inoue and Corenne Harris each had two hits. Christiana Smith had an RBI.
The rest of the week didn't go so good for the locals. They fell to Woodhaven 8-7 at Eastern Michigan University. The game lasted eight innings and Ypsilanti gave up six unearned runs.
Harris had two hits including a two-run double. Ashley Fulks had a triple.
"Ashley pitched a good game," he said. "We were up 4-0 and we started making errors. One player made five errors."
In the Chelsea quad at the end of the week the Phoenix fell 5-1 to the host Bulldogs.
"They have a big six-foot, one inch catcher who leads off and another girl who hit a homerun over the scoreboard," he said. "After the one hit a homerun they (Chelsea) all tried to hit one."
In the second game of the quad the locals fell 13-0 to Walled Lake Western.
"They are a good team with a new coach," he said. "They had a very good pitcher. We only got three hits."
Ypsilanti High finishes up the regular season 11-17 overall and 3-9 in the Mega Blue. Last Tuesday they played Willow Run in Division 2 pre-district play at Carleton Airport.
