The Michigan Public Service commission has issued an order beginning a formal complaint proceeding against Universal Gas & Electric Corporation.

In the order, issued May 20, the MPSC directs its staff to file a single unified complaint against Universal Gas by August 1. The complaint is to cover all matters the MPSC staff believes pertinent to the issue of whether the company's alternative gas supplier license should be revoked.
MPSC Spokesman Gary Kitts said the order was due to the commission receiving unacceptable responses from the company during an investigation that was begun by MPSC on February 22. The investigation was initially supposed to last for two years.
Although Kitts could not give specific details due to MPSC computers being down at the time of the interview, he said the staff investigation had yielded "unsatisfactory results."
Kitts said the staff will present their findings on or before August 1. The commission will then hold a pretrial hearing before an administrative law judge, followed by a formal hearing and briefs and reply-briefs.
