To say Ypsilanti varsity baseball is on fire is right now a vast understatement.

After four more victories this week, Ypsilanti has now won nine consecutive games and 16 out of its last 19. Not bad for a team that started off 0-5.
On May 16, Ypsilanti defeated Taylor Truman 8-3 in eight innings. Truman hit a home run to send the game into extra innings, but then Ypsilanti scored five in the top of the eighth to put it away. Elijiah Jentzen threw 7 1/3 innings on the mound to improve to 4-1 on the year.
On Thursday, Ypsilanti defeated Lincoln Park 5-2. Noland was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Wilbanks had two hits, and Gentry had a double and picked up the win in relief.
Ypsilanti swept its doubleheader against Belleville on Saturday, which was played at Eastern Michigan University. In the first game, Ypsilanti won, 10-8, and was led by three doubles and 3 RBIs off the bat of Corey Reynolds. Also contributing was Eric Noland with a double, triple and 2 RBIs. Craig Swope was 2-for-4 with a double and Adam Wilbanks was 2-for-4, along with earning the win in relief on the mound.
Ypsilanti took the second game, 13-9. Reynolds had a double, Jacob Rhodes a double, triple and 4 RBIs, Noland a triple and 2 RBIs, Clyde Gentry a double and RBI, and Swope scored three runs.
Ypsilanti coach Terry Bigham said the run has been a lot of fun.
"They're playing hard, they really are," he said. "We're starting to hit the ball, too, from top to bottom."
Ypsilanti (8-2 Mega White) played at Redford Union (7-3 Mega White) Monday. A win would clinch the league title.
"That was kind of our goal this year: A league title and to win districts," Bigham said. "And a league title is our first priority and we're not looking past that."
And for Bigham, who's in his first year of coaching after spending five years as an assistant at Milan, a league title would be something special.
"It would obviously be a great thing to do," he said. "I think some of the seniors had that expectation coming into this year.
I couldn't ask for anything more my first year in coaching."
