According to Police Chief Matt Harshberger, officers were called to the intersection of North Prospect Street and Forest Avenue, where they found a 28-year old Ypsilanti Township man slumped behind the wheel of his car on Prospect. The man was unresponsive when the officers arrived.
A passing motorist discovered the witness after observing his vehicle had been sitting at the intersection for an inordinate amount of time. The victim was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and was in critical but stable condition at press time.
Harshberger said it appeared another vehicle had pulled up beside the victim's and two shots had been fired into his automobile. One went through the window, struck the victim in the jaw and lodged in his spine. The second went through the door and into the victim's upper arm.
Investigators recovered evidence from the scene, including a bullet casing that has been sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.
Anyone with information about , is asked to call Ypsilanti police at 483-9510 and ask for Sgt. Troy Fulton.
