Willow Run scored two in the first innings and one very important run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game.
Shelby Johnson hit in the game-winning run (Stephanie Reynolds). Tiffany Duperon had an important bunt in the inning as well.
"In the sixth inning (Highland Park) hit a triple and the girl was coming around third and we threw her out," Willow Run Coach Duane Edwards said. "Tiffany (Duperon) threw a bullet to get her out at the plate. It was the biggest play of the game."
Charlise Randall had two big assists in the game as well.
On April 22 the Flyers blanked Dearborn Fordson 14-0 in five innings. The locals had 20 hits and Fleming threw a no hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk.
Duperon had a double and a triple. Johnson was 4-for-4 and Kayla Warden was 2-for-3.
On April 21, the Flyers fell twice to Redford Thurston. They lost the first game 6-1 and the second one 9-4.
In the first game the Flyers had eight hits but couldn't string anything together.
Fleming took the loss and struck out 11 giving up seven hits and only two earned runs.
"We made three errors that were pretty costly in the game," he said. "In the seventh inning we stranded runners at first and third."
Emmalle McCurdy was 3-for-3, Tiffany Priess had a triple and Duperon had a double.
In game two the Flyers couldn't catch a break as they fell 9-4. Fleming struck out six and gave up 11 hits. Willow Run was up 4-0 early.
"They made five outstanding plays," he said. "I thought we really jumped out on them early."
Erikka Donahue and Duperon each had two hits. Johnson had a triple.
So far this season Fleming has struck out 75 batters in just under 45 innings. Last year she struck out over 200 and she is well on the pace to surpass that this season.
The Flyers slip are now 6-3 overall and 4-0 in the Mega Gold. Today they play at Wayne Memorial High and tomorrow they will host Ypsilanti Lincoln.
