Banners focus on EMU
PUBLISHED: May 1, 2008
When Eastern Michigan University decided to install new campus building identification banners as part of its new "Education First" brand campaign, a call was made to the superintendent of nearby education partner, Ypsilanti Public Schools.

EMU Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications, Theodore G. Coutilish, extended an offer to the district to place a piggy-back order with the university, greatly reducing YPS's cost for the banners by taking advantage of EMU's bulk banner purchase. Last week the district's completed flags were installed outside of all YPS school buildings and EMU will begin placing banners on light posts, April 26.
YPS Superintendent James Hawkins said the banner project is another example of cooperative efforts between the two long-time partners. "We have enjoyed a rich and collaborative relationship with Eastern Michigan University and when Mr. Coutilish extended this offer, we were grateful for the opportunity to showcase our buildings in a similar manner," Hawkins said. "Now when people drive by one of our facilities there will be no doubt that they have arrived at their destination."
Coutilish, who spearheaded the EMU "Education First" brand campaign, said extending the offer to YPS was a logical move.
"Ypsilanti Public Schools has always responded positively to working with the university. Our alliance continues to solidify with time and energy committed to programs that prove productive for both the university and the school district," Coutilish said.
"It has been a pleasure to collaborate with the district on a number of initiatives and we look forward to working on future efforts that will benefit both institutions." Ypsilanti Public Schools has installed 17 outdoor banners and plans to hang several inside Ypsilanti High School following the completion of bond renovation work.
EMU will place 354 light-post banners throughout its main campus as well as around the College of Business, Convocation Center, Eagle Crest, the Foundation and along College Place, Cross, Hewitt, Huron, Oakwood, and Washtenaw roads.
