Six games in one week took its toll on the Lincoln varsity baseball team.

Head Coach Marty Lozano said he ran out of pitchers.
"That's a lot of ball games we played this week," Lozano said. "That kind of puts a strain on your pitching staff. With a situation like that, you really don't have much of a choice. Sometimes you're forced to do things - you have no choice."
The long stretch started off well for Lozano and his team as the Railsplitters defeated cross-town rival Ypsilanti, 4-3, on a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning by Corey Kelch. In the bottom of the seventh, Kelch pitched a 1-2-3 inning to give his team a win, and himself a complete game.
On April 18, against Highland Park, freshman Andrew Dillon got the win on the mound in an 18-2 victory through five innings. Lincoln was up 8-1 in the second game, but play was suspended due to darkness in the fourth inning. Five innings are required for the game to be considered an official contest.
On April 19, the Railsplitters ran into Saline and dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 6-4. Darkness suspended the second game in the sixth inning and Lincoln lost once again in a game Lozano said "wasn't close."
On Saturday at the Matt Avery Invitational, Lincoln lost to Grosse Pointe North, 8-5. The Railsplitters were then mercied by both Grandville and Milan to finish the day. Despite the three losses on Saturday, Lozano believes his team will keep improving each game and learn from previous mistakes.
"Sooner or later the ball will start bouncing our way," Lozano said. "A lot of these things are new to them. Overall, other than (Saturday), I've been pretty pleased."
Lozano said Corey Caldwell, Victor Roache and Dillon have performed well, which is encouraging considering they're underclassmen.
The Railsplitters host Dexter Thursday in their first division league game.
"We'll work hard to correct our mistakes," Lozano said. "We'll come out focused."
