After losing the first game of a doubleheader against Lincoln on April 17, Ypsilanti dropped to 0-5 on the early season.
This time, it was a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning that sealed Ypsilanti's fate for a 4-3 loss.
It was the fourth game in a row Ypsilanti lost by one-run in the seventh.
Then it all turned around for the Purple and Gold.
On April 18 against Lincoln Park, Ypsilanti was down 0-5through five innings. But Bingham's team rallied to score two runs in the sixth, then four in the seventh to pull out a 6-5 victory.
The comeback was spurred by a two-run double off the bat of Cory Reynolds.
"That was our first one-run victory," Bingham said. "So we finally turned things around."
On Friday, Ypsilanti beat Wyandotte, 5-1, to improve to 2-0 in the Mega Red. Kyle Drummond pitched a complete game three-hitter for Ypsilanti in his first start of the year.
On Saturday, Ypsilanti defeated Southgate in a doubleheader. Eric Noland had a home run and triple in one of the games versus Southgate.
The doubleheader sweep gave Bingham's team four consecutive victories after starting the season off 0-5.
"We're playing good baseball," Bingham said. "We had a really tough non-league schedule to start the year."
Bingham said playing in all of those close games helped out his team, which now owns a 4-5-1 record.
"We're not giving games away anymore, which is real important," Bingham said. "Good pitching has really helped us out. There's a lot of kids who haven't played at the varsity level before. I think they're kind of learning on the run."
"We're playing really good defensively. The most important thing is we're 2-0 in the league."
"It was just a matter of time before we turned the corner."
The varsity Braves will travel to Dexter for a doublehader Saturday and then face Redford Union at home Monday.
