Two appointed to school board

In a special meeting held Monday, the Ypsilanti Board of Education appointed Eric Temple Sr. and Sarah Devaney from a field of 10 candidates to fill the positions vacated by Amy Doyle and Cameron Getto.

Temple, who was the unanimous choice of the five remaining trustees, is an administrative specialist with the Ypsilanti Housing Commission and an Ypsilanti resident for four years. He and his wife, Loretta, have three children enrolled in the Ypsilanti Public Schools.
Temple currently is a director of the Boys and Girls Club, and has been active in the United Way Day of Caring, Eastern Michigan University Plunge Day and Ypsilanti Pride Day, as well as school activities. He also is an associate minister at Christ Temple Baptist Church.
Devaney, who was appointed after a 4–1 vote,, is an educational data analyst for the Washtenaw Intermediate School District and has lived in Ypsilanti for six years. She described herself as a peer facilitator and team builder.
Devaney is the treasurer and an at-large director of an Ann Arbor nonprofit organization in Ann Arbor and an at-large board member of the Normal Park Neighborhood Association in Ypsilanti. She is also on the school improvement team at Ypsilanti High School.
