Spring has sprung to much delight

PUBLISHED: April 24, 2008

Spring has finally sprung in the area and I think people are pretty happy that it has. I love this time of year when the trees start to come alive with leaves and the flowers start to bloom.

Really it isn't the scenery that I love quite as much as the outside sports activities. This is the time of year when people either shine or go home. The winter is over and all the indoor sports have been played.

It is time to get down to the basics and have some fun playing some high school sports. Ypsilanti, Willow Run and Lincoln all have some very good sport programs and these programs are all looking to make a name for each other.

I know track is a big sport out this way and from what I have heard and what I know Ypsilanti High has a good program. Coach Torin Moore has taken the helm of both programs and it is a sure thing both will do well.

Kyra Caldwell is returning from winning the Division 2 state meet in both hurdles and she has already proven herself good enough to get a college scholarship. She is going to Columbia University next fall for track and The Courier will be having a story on her in the very near future.

For the boys Marvon Sanders is looking to end strong as a senior and earn his twelfth varsity letter. Three letters a year since he was a freshman (track, football, basketball). He has been fun to watch and I can't wait to see what he will do in football next season at Eastern Michigan University.

Lincoln had a good program for track and a pretty good lacrosse team from what I understand. I can't wait to see what they can do come playoff time. The Splitters have some good athletes and I must admit they have a lot of spirit and pride whether they win or lose.

Willow Run is one of those schools that I can see being on the cusp of something great. They have the kids and they have the talent they just need a little push.

I think they are headed in the right direction and I think that the athletic director, Bryan Schroeder, is doing a great job over there. I look for them to be one of those schools getting ready to explode. Who knows maybe this spring will be the time but I will bet you that they are going to do some great things in the very near future.

I love sports and I love covering, watching and writing about each one of them. The spring is perhaps the busiest season of all for prep sports. We have a lot of stuff to get in and not a lot of time to do it. I want you to know I will make every effort to get it in the paper.

As long as the coaches call me back each week or they email or fax me the results I will get it in the paper. I look forward to hearing and writing about the local teams from this area and I want to hear the game stories as well as the stories behind the games.

Spring is the busiest and most active season. So close your eyes grab the steering wheel and hang on for some fun exciting high school prep coverage.
