The park, located on Stoney Creek Road in Ypsilanti Township, is adding 74 acres of mostly agricultural land on its west side near Munger Road.
Coy Vaughn, from the Washtenaw County Recreation Department, gave the Augusta Township Board of Trustees a brief presentation of the county's plans.
Vaughn said the addition is part of a 20 year plan to develop the park and expand its recreational activities. The county has purchased several tracts in the last few years to add on to the park's original 151 acres. Now the park has around 365 acres.
Part of the plan is to develop the new property into a 6 to 18 hole Frisbee golf course, and possibly connecting it with the existing 18 hole course.
Vaughn also said the far west side of the new property might be converted into a mountain bike trail and be connected with nearby Hewen's Creek Mountain Bike Park, which is owned by Ypsilanti Township's recreation department.
There are also plans for another water park, soccer fields, some handicapped use baseball diamonds, and some new multi-use trails.
Vaughn said the park is among the most popular in the county, especially the water park. He added that the county wanted to make the park bigger and better to the point where it rivaled Kensington Metro Park in Oakland County.
