Ypsilanti police were called to Eastern Michigan University parking structure on Oakwood Street at about 7:30 last Thursday morning on a report of an armed robbery.

The woman victim, 23, said she had been walking from the 600 block of Roosevelt Street when an unknown suspect came up behind her and grabbed her purse and backpack, which had become entangled with each other. The suspect then pointed a knife at her and demanded her "stuff."

The victim dropped her bags and ran toward EMU. The suspect was last seen walking westbound from the scene. Officers conducted an extensive search for the suspect and the stolen items, but were unsuccessful.

The suspect is described at being a medium complexioned man in his mid-20s, about six feet tall with a thin build, last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The stolen items include an olive green and black "Mec" backpack, a black Coach Purse, three teaching textbooks, a "Compaq" laptop computer and identification.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the stolen items is asked to call the Ypsilanti Police Department at 483-9510.

Selling drugs

The Ypsilanti Neighborhood Policing Team of Zachary Allen and Bradley Compton was in the vicinity of East Michigan Avenue and River Street at about 10 p.m. last Thursday when they saw a man exit a truck at the BP gas station and get on a bicycle to ride westbound on the sidewalk along Michigan Avenue.

As the officers followed the bike rider, intending to cite him for riding on the sidewalk in the business district, that individual saw the officers and changed course to ride eastbound on Michigan Avenue. As the officers approached the suspect, he threw a small plastic bag into a nearby drain.

The officers retrieved the baggie, which was found to contain crack cocaine. The suspect was also found to have one rock of crack on his person and was arrested.

The truck driver admitted to buying one rock of crack, but said he threw it away when he saw the officers.

Possession of drugs

Ypsilanti police Officer Brooke Harrison was patrolling in the 100 block of S. Grove Road at 10:17 p.m. last Thursday when she saw three suspects acting suspiciously in a vehicle outside an apartment building. Upon approaching the vehicle, the strong odor of marijuana was detected.

The front seat passenger admitted to having two marijuana cigarettes in his front pocket. He agreed to a search and the cigarettes were found in his front pants pocket. He was arrested.

Drugs and paraphernalia

Ypsilanti police officers Richard Houk and Robert Eggenberger were on patrol at 8:25 p.m. last Friday when they observed a suspect acting suspiciously in the area of West Michigan Avenue and First Street. Contacting the suspect, he admitted to having a "crack pipe" on his person and agreed to a search. The pipe was located and found to contain .64 grams of crack cocaine. A push rod for the pipe was also found. The suspect was arrested.

Possession of drugs

Ypsilanti police officers Andrew Vainner and Brent Yuchasz were called to the area near Abe's Coney Island at about 2 a.m. last Saturday to handle two men arguing and pushing each other. During the altercation, one of the men dropped a paper bag that was found to contain 29.21 grams of marijuana. The other suspect was found to be intoxicated. Both were arrested.
