Ypsilanti junior outside midfielder Olivia Banks scored the single goal.
Head coach Nicki Allen said her team wasn't playing very aggressive.
"That was our biggest downfall," Allen said. "I think aggressiveness lost us a lot of the fifty-fifty balls."
Allen said it could be attributed to scrimmaging against one another, rather than playing opponents.
She said her team has a lot of different skill levels. Right now, they're trying to get the basics down pat and build from there, she said.
Allen wants her team to use the entire field, not just the middle of the field.
With just five seniors on the team, and a lot of freshman, Allen said her strongest player will be senior goal keeper Lauren Burdick.
"She's going to be responsible for being the second coach on the field," Allen said. "She can see it all."
Allen, a first-year coach at Ypsilanti, knows this because she was a goalkeeper herself. She graduated from Grand Blanc, and then played four years at Eastern Michigan.
Allen said she is still testing out positions and switching people around. As of right now, she does not have any key goal scorers, but that could definitely change in upcoming action.
Ypsilanti hosted Taylor Kennedy Wednesday. The varsity squad will have three games during the week of April 23 including matches against Fordson and Melvindale, when action kicks into full gear.
"I'm not expecting to win a championship, but we want to start building a program," Allen said. "I'm hoping to stick around for a while."
