If the trek from Davison to Ypsilanti wasn't long enough, a traffic jam en route to the Lincoln varsity's lacrosse match held up the Cardinals bus April 3.

As a result, the Davison bus arrived at the 4:30 scheduled game time, giving them a limited amount of time to strap on the gear and prepare for the Railsplitters.
Despite the tough situation, the Davison varsity endured keeping it a tight 5-4 game at halftime. That's when Lincoln coach Jeff Daniels addressed his experienced team.
"I just told our guys, we need to settle down and focus on the basics," Daniels said. "Start trying to move the ball around, instead of trying to have one guy do too much."
The Railsplitters did just that and played a strong second half. As the Cardinals fell behind, they started to press, giving Lincoln extra scoring opportunities as they went onto win, 14-7.
Lincoln junior attackmen Kyle Anglium and David Palmer each had five goals and Anglium also added four assists. Lincoln senior midfielder Eric Mitchell had two goals, three assists.
Out of the 10 combined goals between Palmer and Anglium, however, neither scored number 13 on that day. Instead, it was junior midfielder Jason Higgs.
The significance was that Higgs' goal, scored in the fourth quarter for the first of his career, was the 1,000 goal in Lincoln varsity lacrosse history.
"It's good to see him have some success," Daniels said.
"He's had injuries the last two years. Had to sit out an entire season because he broke his arm; leg last year limited his effectiveness quite a bit. So that was nice for him."
Anglium wanted the historic goal badly. As Higgs ran off the field, Daniels informed him about the historic goal, and that's when Anglium overheard his coach, realizing he missed an opportunity to make the Lincoln record books.
"He wasn't even thinking about it," Daniels said. "He said, 'Oh, man I wanted that one.' So now he has to wait until 2,000."
Lincoln schools are on spring break right now and will resume their regular lacrosse schedule April 17 in a road matchup against Gabriel Richard.
