Not unlike the Detroit Tigers opening week, the Ypsilanti Phoenix struggled to hit the ball to begin the season last Saturday.

Ypsilanti High fell to Plymouth High School 15-2 and 11-1.
Phoenix Coach Terry Bigham said his team had trouble hitting on the day.
"I think we struck out something like 20 times total for both games," Bigham stated. "They hit the ball well and we had some key players who were out."
He said that was not the reason for the loss but added that they are going to have to do much better if they expect to do well in the league this season.
In the 15-2 defeat, Justin Brewer took the loss on the hill pitching all five innings. Clyde Gentry had two hits and one RBI and Kevin Osborne had two hits as well.
Adam Wilbanks pitched four and two-third innings in the 11-1 loss. Sam Egbert had the only RBI in that game.
"It was a tough way to get started," he said. "We struck out way too much. We are a young team and we have a long way to go."
Ypsilanti High (0-2) is on Spring Break this week and will hopefully get things back on track this weekend when they play in a four-team tournament at Grass Lake. Bigham said he expects to get back two of his key players this week and possibly a third if all works out as planned.
