It took only two games for Lincoln varsity lacrosse to receive a wake-up call.

After lightning cancelled the opening game March 27 at Romulus, the Railsplitters played their first game against Grosse Ile on March 29.
And thatís when a physical Grosse Ile team opened up a 5ñ0 lead en route to a 10ñ 6 victory over the Railsplitters.
ìSince we didnít get to play on Tuesday, we had a very slow start,î Lincoln coach Jeff Daniels said. ìWe were ragged.
ìWe outscored them over the last three quarters; we just couldnít dig ourselves out of the whole we dug in the first quarter. It was a good wake up call.î
Junior attackmen Kyle Anglium had two goals and two assists but the Railsplitters were sloppy and couldnít control the ground balls, Daniels said.
ìGuys were going out there figuring it was going to be easier than it was,î Daniels said. ìBy the time they realized it wasnít, they were already behind by five.î
Lincoln played much better Saturday, as the Railsplitters defeated Ypsilanti, 16 ñ 0.
Junior attackman David Palmer had four goals and two assists and Anguilm had five goals and four assists.
Daniels expects his 1ñ1 team to have a decent season, and use the first half to settle in while adjusting to the loss of an all-senior defense and goaltender.
ìThereís a lot of inexperience on that side of the field,î Daniels said. ìThatís the biggest difference.
ìWe have a couple of good guys in the midfield and obviously we have some strength up front (attackmen).î
Daniels said his defensemen and goaltender just need to get some games under their belt before the meat of the schedule begins.
As a Division 2 team, enrollment less than 1,300, the toughest games will be in the middle and end.
ìOverall, Iím pretty optimistic,î Daniels said. ìWeíre going to have another decent season.î
The Railsplitters hosted Davison Tuesday, and then traveled to Royal Oak Kimball on Wednesday.
