Greff said she was surprised to receive the award, which is given to community leaders who actively assist women in their attainment of professional excellence.
"I really feel like there are so many women involved in the community," Greff said. "There are dizens of people who are deserving of this award."
Greff, who owns the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti with her husband Matt, said one thing she tries to do is use the business as a vehicle for supporting non-profits.
Since it opened two years ago the brewery has played host to several events and fundraisers benifintting the community organizations including Growing Hope, the Riverside Arts Center, Friends of the Ypsilanti Freighthouse and Planned Parenthood.
Greff also said the brewery has a great space for events such as seminars and she said she enjoys being able to offer a space for people to meet.
The Greff's, who also own Arbor Brewing Company in Ann Arbor, pride themselves on an entire upper management of women at both breweries.
Greff's husband said his wife acts as a role modle to others without even trying. He said she is involved in the community because she wants to be, not because she wants accolades.
"Ego is not a factor for what she does," he said.
Greff has received a number of awards including the Environmental Excellence Award for waste reduction & recycling in 2000, the 2006 Business Growth & Expansion Award from the Women Business Owners of Southeastern Michigan and in 2004 Greff was selected as one of Business Direct Weekly's Most Influential Women.
Greff was presented with the ATHENA Award last week. She said the award is a great way to celebrate others achievements.
"The point of it is to bring attention to all of the achievements of women in the community," Greff said.
