Things can only get better for the Willow Run Flyers baseball team this year. Last year the team struggled with a 1-19 record and did not participate in post season play.

This season Coach Jeff Edwards is looking to improve especially now that his team will play in the Mega Gold. Edwards who has been coaching for over 15 years is excited about the season.
"I see Inkster, (Dearborn) Fordson and Highland Park as the tough teams in the Gold," Edwards commented. "All the players coming back this year have experience with summer ball."
A transfer student from Belleville, Tyler Hamill, will be taking the hill for the Flyers. He is a six-feet, seven-inch junior that throws right-handed and can play third.
Seniors on the team include Mikael Thomas who plays short and second base. Edwards says he is a good athlete. Senior Sean Foster will play either outfield or infield. Junior Michael Lloyd will bat cleanup and play first base.
Sophomores will play a key role for this team as well. Trevor Gregg is a good hitter that pitches, catches and plays short, Joey Reynolds is a left handed pitcher and a leftfielder. Sophomore D'Andre Thompson will play the outfield.
"With the experience of our players and if our pitchers come through we should have a good team," he said. "We lost our best player to Ypsilanti but he is playing golf anyway."
Edwards said he feels the team is much improved and hopefully they can pull together a ten win season.
Non-league games for the Flyers include Dearborn Heights Annapolis, Redford Thurston and Calvary Christian.
"I am hoping to get back to how we were before," he said. "We have a fantastic hard-working team."
Willow Run will get started on March 31 at Dearborn Fordson.
