Doris Marion Mason, 90, of Ypsilanti, died March 7, 2008 at the Gilbert Residence after a brief illness.
She was born December 10, 1917, in Oak Grove, Michigan, the daughter of Carl and Mary Nied. Mrs. Mason has been a long time resident of the Ypsilanti area. On December 20, 1947, she married Henry Mason at the First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti officiated by Dr. Clyde McDonald. Henry preceded her in death in July 1999.
She was a secretary in the U.S.Navy, stationed in Washington D.C. during W.W.II. Upon discharge, she worked in the office of Central Speciality. Doris was a school secretary at Central Elementary for several years before moving to the Ypsilanti City Hall Clerks office where she was employed for 15 years. Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti for 62 years where she was involved with teaching Sunday School and served on the Official Board.
Survivors include her children: Dale M. Mason and wife, Jan of Westland and daughter, Mary M. Ferry and husband Dennis of Holland; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Carl P. Mason in 1950.
Funeral services were held March 12 at the First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti with Pastor Melanie Carey officiating. Cremation will follow with interment in the Church Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
