Local teen still missing

Sheriff's deputies have received tips, but have not been able to locate her

By Brian Cox, Staff Writer

PUBLISHED: March 8, 2007

Please help locate Brittany Galanti Anyone with information on her whereabouts please call Corrie at 1-734-529-8878 or send a news tip to editor@milannewsleader.com

It has been nearly a month since Milan High School sophomore Brittany Galanti ran away from home, but police believe that she is still within the Milan area and have no reason to think she is in any danger.

Police have received and followed up on around two dozen leads to the 15-year-old's whereabouts, but have not been able to locate her, said Detective Jeff Corrie of the Monroe County Sheriff's Department.

Galanti took the bus to school Feb. 9 but did not return home. Her parents, Joseph and Cathy Galanti, filed a missing person's report three days later after spending the weekend looking for their daughter.

Cathy Galanti said she and her daughter had an argument that Friday over whether Brittany could attend a party.

Police believe the girl could be moving from friend's house to friend's house, and early in their search had indication she could be in the Stockbridge area.

"It's frustrating," Corrie said. "Somebody locally knows where she is."

Corrie said if it's shown that an adult is helping Galtanti without contacting police, the Sheriff's Department would seek felony charges for hindering a police investigation.

Police consider Galanti a juvenile runaway and have not issued an Amber Alert, which is issued only when law enforcement believe the child is a victim of abduction or is missing and at imminent risk of injury or death.

"We have not uncovered any information indicating (Galanti's) in any danger," Corrie said.

Anyone with information on Galanti's whereabouts is asked to call Corrie at 1-734-529-8878.
