The Flyers fell on the road at Dearborn Divine Child to the Falcons 67-50. In the first quarter the locals were up 16-14 but trailed 28-26 at the half.
Willow Run Coach Scott Hunter said it was a fairly close game until the fourth quarter.
"We were down by three points in the fourth quarter and then they pulled away," Hunter said. "They got to the basket and they started hitting their foul shots in the fourth quarter."
Divine Child was 13-for-18 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Willow Run hit two threes in the fourth and made two free throws. They hit no two-point baskets in the final eight minutes of play.
"We were right there until the end, we just didn't have enough," he said. "They picked up the intensity and they are a physical team. We just couldn't match their intensity."
Two players fouled out for the Flyers. Brian Cogdell had 20 points and Mark Cook chipped in with 10 points.
Willow Run bows out of the state tournament with a record of 6-15 and will lose three seniors (two were starters).
"We bring back 80 percent of our scoring and 70 percent of our rebounding," he said. "We have some good JV kids coming up. We have to try and create more offense."
He said this was almost like a rebuilding year but he did expect the program to do slightly better than what they did do. Hunter said his team would have scoring droughts almost every game.
"Hopefully we will work out hard and have a good summer," he said. "I thought we played well at times but we were not consistent."
