Ypsilanti police were called to the 700 block of Pearl Street 3 a.m. Monday in response to a report of several people fighting in an apartment.
Upon arrival, the officers were approached by a man and a woman who said they had been walking nearby when they saw a person on the ground, bleeding, whom they identified as a neighbor in their apartment building. The pair offered to help the man to his apartment.
The man got to his feet, but when the woman tried to take his arm to aid him, he assaulted her. Her male friend then intervened and was punched in the mouth.
The officers went into the apartment, where they found a man who was bleeding and who became combative toward the officers. They handcuffed him before attempting to get into a patrol car. As they were leaving the building, the suspect attempted to jump from the second floor balcony.
The suspect was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. The people who had tried to aid him refused to press charges, as he is a neighbor.
Pizza driver robbed
Ypsilanti police were called to the 900 block of Railroad Street 11 p.m. Feb. 26 to a report of a strong-arm robbery.
The victim, a pizza delivery employee, said he had been approached while in the parking lot of the apartment building by a suspect described as a 5-foot 7-inch man in his early 20s, wearing a gray hoodie and black pants.
The suspect grabbed the three pizzas from the victim's hand and began running westbound on LeForge Road. The driver chased the suspect, but lost him amidst the apartment buildings.
The department's K-9 Unit was brought to the scene, but the area was too contaminated by foot traffic for Buky to establish a scent.
Shots fired
Ypsilanti police were called to the 500 block of First Court 11:16 p.m. Feb. 26 in response to a report of shots fired. The caller said the shooter was a man wearing all black clothing and had fired several rounds before going into an apartment.
Upon arrival, officers observed that the apartment noted by the caller was vacant. The caller told them the shooter had just left in a white, older model Oldsmobile with two other people.
Officers Joshua Lawther and Michael Rini located the vehicle nearby and stopped it. The driver of the vehicle had no driver's license and was in possession of a baggie containing powder cocaine. The back seat passenger was wanted on a warrant for fleeing and eluding from Wayne County. The front seat passenger was found to have a handgun under his seat.
One bullet casing and one slug were found at the scene in First Court. All three occupants of the Oldsmobile were arrested.
