Ypsilanti coach Steve Brooks delivered a message to his varsity basketball team Friday, he told his players there aren't many kids who have the opportunity to play for a league title in the last week of the season.

The varsity Braves responded to that message and now will have that opportunity.
With a 62–54 win over Belleville Friday, the Purple and Gold have set up a chance to capture the Mega Red title this week of the team can garner victories against Truman and Romulus.
In Friday's victory over the Tigers, Marvon Sanders led the way with 16 points while Torren Burns chipped in 11, and Jordan Frazier 10.
Senior guard L.J. Frazier had the line of the night with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
With the victory, Ypsilanti is now tied with Taylor Truman, both with 8–2 records, for the top spot in the conference.
Truman is a familiar foe for Brooks. After all, his Braves were defeated 60-43 Jan. 30.
"They just really outplayed us," Brooks said. "They beat us to loose balls, they blocked out better and rebounded better in that game.
"They just wanted it a little bit more than us."
Brooks said the 17–point loss was a "carry-over" game from 2006 when Truman knocked Ypsilanti out of the state playoffs in the regional championship game.
"Truman is starting to be a menace," Brooks said. "We're just really trying to win out. If we win out, we'll be Mega champs."
Of course winning out the rest of the schedule means facing a tough Romulus squad Friday.
The game will be the first of a back-to-back match up, the two teams will face each other again in the first round of statewide district play Tuesday.
"I really wouldn't want to have it any other way," Brooks said of his upcoming schedule. "You're going right into the fire.
"If you're going to go on a run, you might as well beat the good teams."
