Calvary fell on Feb. 12 to Newport Lutheran South by a score of 47-31. The locals were only down by three points going into the third quarter but South made a run.

Sarah Roe had eight points and Abby Birk had seven points.

"We had two girls foul out," Calvary Coach Steve Thurmond said. "And two more of the starters had four fouls.

"The first time we played them we beat them pretty good but this time they had three transfer students who scored 39 of their points."

Later in the week, Calvary fell to Canton Agape Christian 33-27. Calvary was up by one point going into the final quarter but Agape outscored them 10-5 in the final eight minutes of play.

"It was a good game for us," he said. "We just ran out of gas."

The Lady Cougars finish the regular season with a 7-12 overall record and 4-6 in the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference's Red division.

On Monday they player Washtenaw Christian at Adrian Lenawee Christian in the first round of Class D district action.

The Calvary Christian Cougars came up just a bit short last week losing to Novi Franklin Road 47-40.

In the first quarter, the locals were down 14-5 and with a big second quarter surge they made it a 21-18 deficit at the half.

Calvary Coach Mike Moore said his team didn't play their best game of the season.

"We didn't shoot the ball well," Moore said. "In the end we had to put them on the line and they made the shots."

Jon Wiedmann had 20 points and the next closest Calvary player had six points.

On Feb. 12 the locals came up with a big 72-62 win over Monroe Lutheran South. Calvary was up 20-14 after the first quarter and led 31-26 at the half.

In the third quarter the Cougars exploded for a season high 28 points and held Lutheran South to only 18 points.

"We were up by 20 points and I started subbing," he said. "We had to put the starters back in and it got closer than I would have liked."

Wiedmann had 19 points. Sam Apple was huge with 16 points and 11 boards. Levi Moore and Jonah Langenderfer had 11 points each and Brandon Periord had 10 points.

The team was 11-of-23 from three-point range.

On Feb. 11 they fell to Ann Arbor Greenhills 68-57.

"They were a more open court team than we were use to," he said. "The game was within two points with three minutes to go and we had to put them on the line."

Moore said his team played well that night and they hit five threes.

Wiedmann had 15 points, Apple had 13 points and Langenderfer had 10 points.

Calvary is 10-8 overall and 6-3 in the Michigan Independent Athletic Conference's Red division. Today they host Canton Agape and last Tuesday they played at Oakland Christian.

On Monday they will enter the state playoffs and play at 6 p.m. against the host Lenawee Christian in the first round of Class D district play.
