After two and a half years as Lincoln Consolidated School District's superintendent, Fred Williams unexpectedly resigned at Monday night's school board meeting.

Williams, who had been living in an apartment in the area, said being away from his family and his home in Grand Ledge was too difficult.
"I'm sorry the timing is the way it was," Williams said Tuesday morning. "Some things just happen and you can't control the timing."
Kimberly Samuelson, president of the school board, said Williams tendered his resignation last week so the board could have it approved by Monday evening's meeting.
Williams cleaned out his office and headed back to Grand Ledge Tuesday. He said the number one thing on his agenda is to find a job.
"I do not have another job, I do not even have anything in the barrel at this time," Williams said. "Hopefully I will find something."
Lincoln's school board will hold a special meeting to name a temporary replacement 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Center room of the Brick Elementary.
