Annapolis won the league meet, Melvindale was second and Trenton was third. Woodhaven and Dearborn tied for fourth place.
The locals had three wrestlers who earned champion status. Greg Egbert (one-hundred and nineteen pounds) improved to 44-0 and was a champion. Brian Peplinski (130) and Ben Hand (171) were also league champs.
Patrick Hopps (112) was third and Tm Nestorak (125) was fourth.
Earlier in the week, the locals fell to Trenton 40-28. Hopps (112), Egbert (119), Nestorak (125), Peplinski (140), Hand (171) and Dan Kortay (189) all won matches.
"It was a very intense week for the wrestlers," Ypsilanti Coach Claudell Ruffin said. "I think the team is ready for districts."
Yesterday the team district was at Milan and they started out against Tecumseh. On Saturday they will be at Adrian in the individual district action.
Ruffin said he would like to see several of his wrestlers make it to the regional. Last year he had three wrestlers make it to the state meet including Egbert.
Egbert lost his first match in the state meet but fought back to take third place in his weight class.
"He won six matches in a row and took third at the state meet," he said. "That is tough to do. He was beating the kid he lost to but he got caught in a head lock."
