Ypsilanti varsity netters were thrown for a surprise last week as they had to unexpectedly play a make-up game vs. Belleville.

Head Coach Ryan Minarik watched his team fall short on Friday as Ypsilanti dropped the match 25-11, 25-22 and 25-14.
"It was probably the worst game they've played," Minarik said, whose team dropped to 6-18-2 after the loss.
"We weren't supposed to play (on Friday). We weren't ready for it," he said.
Minarik said a couple of his girls wanted to participate in a bi-weekly fundraiser at a local Pizza Hut. The girls would clear tables, refill drinks and hand out napkins and the team would ern 20 percent of the earnings.
But since they had to play in the make-up game, the seniors couldn't work their assigned day and the freshman had to help out instead.
"Their minds were somewhere else," Minarik said. "We didn't want to play on Friday."
After dropping the first game against Belleville, things were looking up for Minarik and his team in the second game as they cruised to a 16-10 lead. But Belleville then recorded eight consecutive points, five of them being aces, and Ypsilanti was on its way to a 25-22 loss.
Sarah Muse had 22 assists and set the ball well, according to Minarik. But the serving, he said, was nothing special.
"We were sporadic-all over the place," Minarik said. "Our serve receives were probably the worst they have been all year. They just kept the ball in play, we didn't."
Dominique Jones led the team in the losing effort. She had six kills out the 11 points for Ypsilanti in the first game, and finished the match with eight.
"(She) was the only one who was putting the ball away," Minarik said about Jones. "They couldn't stop her. We just couldn't pass to her."
