Ron Cirrana, the district's current superintendent, hasn't announced if he'll be throwing his hat into the running.
"I don't know," Cirrana said. "I'll wait until the process goes further."
Earlier this month, Willow Run Board of Education President Claudette Braxton announced she would be searching for bids from different firms to perform the search for the district. So far, Braxton said she has contacted the Michigan Association of School Boards and the Michigan Leadership Institute. The board hopes to decide on a firm early next month.
Cirrana said that it would be more beneficial to work with a bigger network than performing its own search.
Cirrana has been with the school district since July 2004. He was named the interim-superintendent in July 2005 after the district's former superintendent, Douglas Benit, resigned after a criminal investigation revealed Benit was involved in disingenuous business transactions with two Ohio-based companies. His contract was set to expire in this year if he hadn't resigned.
After a 4-3 vote, splitting the district's Board of Education last summer, Cirrana's contract was extended for one year and the word "interim" was dropped from his title.
Because of the board's decision, Stanley Stewart, a local resident and husband of Board Treasurer Dorthy Stewart, launched a recall campaign, which would have put the seats of Brenda Clay, board secretary, and Braxton up for re-election. Stewart cited a violation of the Open Meetings Act as cause for the recall. The recall campaign was halted when Cirrana turned down the contract extension.
