Ypsilanti police officers Brent Yuchasz and Robert Eggenberger responded to a call of a man waving a gun at a party in the 300 block of West Ainsworth Street on Jan. 16.
Upon arrival, the officers observed many individuals fighting both on the lawn and inside the building and called for backup.
Officers Andrew Vainner, Jonathan McDonagh, Tony Schembri and Richard Houk arrived and the six officers attempted to break up the fighting and get more than 30 people off the property at the request of the resident.
One suspect ran at Vainner and grabbed the officer's arm. Vainner attempted to restrain the suspect, but it required the use of pepper spray to subdue him enough to be handcuffed and arrested.
The suspect blew a .33 on the field breathalyzer test. He was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for detoxification.
Suspicious robbery
Ypsilanti police were called to the area of South Huron Street and I-94 last Friday at 1:50 a.m. on the report of a man injured in a robbery.
The victim said he had hitchhiked from Detroit and been let off at Huron Street exit. He had been walking northbound on South Huron Street near a gas station when he was struck on the head from behind by two black men. He also was cut several times on the arm, ribs and head with a knife. He reported his blue leather jacket, with "Detroit" in while on the back and a white "D" on the front was taken.
Suicide
Ypsilanti police were called to the 400 block of West Forest Avenue at 11:10 p.m. last Sunday. There, they found a 24-year-old Romulus man who had shot himself in the head with a .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun.
It was reported the young man had been text-messaging his former girlfriend, who lived in the 400 block of West Forest Avenue, before using the gun. The messages said he planned to take his life, according to Chief Matt Harshberger.
The victim obtained the gun from his father's house in Romulus. After drinking, he went to the parking lot of the former girlfriend's apartment building. She and other women inside the building heard two shots and saw the man in the driveway. They called police.
The victim was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he died on Monday morning. His family intended to donate his organs.

Serious injury crash in Ypsilanti Township: On Jan. 14 at about 10:15 a.m., Washtenaw County Sheriff's Deputies - along with Augusta Township, and Van Buren Township emergency responders - were dispatched to the intersection of Rawsonville and Bemis for a two-car injury crash.
Upon arrival, deputies found a DTE Energy work truck partially on top of a 1992 For Escort in the ditch southwest of the intersection. Rescue workers used large wreckers and extrication equipment to remove the driver of the Ford from the wreckage, and he was immediately transported by Survival Flight helicopter to the University of Michigan hospitals in Ann Arbor in critical condition.
The initial investigation has revealed that the DTE truck, which was being driven by a 48-year-old Monroe area man, was traveling westbound on Bemis Road, when it failed to stop at a stop sign on Rawsonville and struck the Ford Escort. The Ford was being driven southbound on Rawsonville by a 77-year-old Ypsilanti Township man, and took the brunt of the collision on the driver's side door. The DTE worker was not injured.
Deputies do not believe that alcohol or controlled substances were involved in the accident, which remains under investigation.
