Ypsilanti police were kept busy this past week with a series of robberies.

Man tells police his wallet was taken after a chase in Ypsilanti

At about 11 p.m. Jan. 11, a man parked his car in the 200 block of Normal Street intending to visit a friend. He told police that he saw two suspects approaching from the direction of Washtenaw and Normal, and they attempted to enter the back yard of his friend's residence. He said they chased and caught him.
The man said he was threatened and his wallet was taken. The suspects left in the direction of Summit Street, according to a police report.
The suspects were described as large black men wearing dark clothing.
Victim beaten, injured
A 15-year-old boy was assaulted at about 4 a.m. Jan. 13 behind the Lucky Two Party Store, 306 E. Michigan Ave. The victim told Ypsilanti police three men in a beige Toyota four-door pulled up and two of the car's occupants got out and starting hitting him, while the third man watched.
The victim suffered a broken left ankle, lacerations to his left hand and cuts and bruises to his left shoulder. The suspects took his First Down brand jacket and his Nike Air Jordan basketball shoes.
The suspects were described as black males and one was wearing a silver crucifix. The victim said he probably would not be able to identify his attackers
The victim later changed his story and said the assault happened on Parsons Street. The juvenile is being referred to the state Family Independence Agency for follow-up investigation.
Store robbed
Also on Saturday, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Ypsilanti Police were called to the 200 block of W. Michigan Avenue where personnel reported a man armed with a gun had entered the store and removed money from the cash register.
The suspect was described as a black male between 30 and 40 years of age, approximately five feet eight inches in height with a medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and a black ski mask.
The suspect ran from the building and across the street through the small park beside the Ypsilanti District Library W. Michigan branch. A tracking dog was brought in, but lost the scent in the vicinity of the post office on Adams Street.
Armed robbery attempt
Again on Saturday, in the 700 block of N. congress at nearly midnight, a woman reported she was parking her car in back of her house when she was approached by a man with a gun. The man told her to hand "it" over and the woman replied, "What? I don't have any money." The suspect then walked past her and down the driveway.
The suspect was described as a black male wearing a gray Army jacket and stocking cap. The victim said she did not think she would be able to recognize him again.
ATM robbed
On Monday, January 15, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Ypsilanti Police were called to the Boggs gas station at the corner of E. Cross and N. Prospect streets. Personnel there reported a white male had removed the cash box from the ATM inside the store. The suspect had a key to enter the machine.
The suspect was described as being in his 20s, approximately five feet eight inches tall, with a thin build and wearing dark clothing.
He was accompanied by a black male, who distracted the clerk while the machine was entered. That suspect is described as being in his late 20s, approximately six feet in height with a heavy build, and wearing dark clothing.
The two men are believed to have entered a vehicle parked west of the station on E. Cross St.
Investigation on this and the other incidents continues. Anyone with information is requested to call the Ypsilanti Police at 483-9510.
