Flyers drop Monroe

Friday was a good night for the Flyers who earned their first league win by beating Monroe 64-51 on the road.

Both teams played even in the first quarter and the game was tied 10-10 after eight minutes of play. The Flyers took a slight 26-24 lead into the lockers at the half.
In the third quarter, the locals outscored the Trojans 18-12.
"We played steady throughout the game," Flyer Coach Scott Hunter commented. "In the third quarter our defense picked up."
Hunter said his team hit nine triples in the game. Mark Cook made five triples and scored 23 points. Brian Cogdell had 19 points.
There were a lot of free throws from both sides in the game. The Flyers were 13-for-22 and Monroe was 16-of-28 from the charity stripe.
On Jan. 8, Ypsilanti bounced the Flyers in a 43-30 match. The Phoenix led 11-2 after the first quarter and 25-7 at the half.
"We came out after the half and settled down," he said. "We hit a couple of jump shots and cut the lead to seven points."
Cook led his team with 16 points and Cogdell chipped in next with six points.
The Flyers are 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the Mega Red. Tonight they play at Ypsilanti High and on Tuesday they played at Ann Arbor Huron.
