The Phoenix have not yet risen from the ashes in boys' basketball, but Ypsilanti Coach Steve Brooks isn't quite ready to give up the ship.

Ypsilanti High fell to Muskegon Heights 61-54 at home on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers took the early 15-9 lead after the first quarter and led 31-23 at the half.
In the third quarter the Phoenix played very strong defense holding Muskegon Heights to only eight points but managed to only score seven points themselves.
"I thought it was a close game," Brooks said. "(Torren) Burns got in early foul trouble."
After getting two early fouls he sat most of the first quarter and again in the second quarter he picked up another foul, which set him back on the bench.
"Burns finished the game but then Marvon (Sanders) fouled out," he said. "Muskegon Heights had a couple of players who were taken off the team for disciplinary reasons."
Brooks said he is proud of the way his kids have played this season and the fact they have been in every game with the exception of the Detroit Cody game.
Despite fouling out, Burns was the co-leader in scoring with 11 points and Brandon Morris had 11 points as well. Josh Whitfield had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Greg Gibson had 10 for the varsity Phoenix.
"We have to have our guards playing well at the same time," he said. "Right now there is a lot of frustration and I think the kids just want to get another win."
Friday is a big Mega Red league game at Belleville. On Tuesday the Phoenix went against Taylor Truman.
Ypsilanti is currently 1-6 overall and 1-1 in the Mega Red. The lone win this season for the Phoenix was a league contest with Monroe High.
