Changes sought
at Eastern Michigan

A petition asking Gov. Jennifer Granholm to take specific actions in response to an audit of Eastern Michigan University’s University House project began circulating through the community last weekend.

The audit, which was released on July 13, was critical of the manner in which the University handled the construction of the 10,000-square-foot building, which contains a president’s residence and a facility for fundraising and other events.

Doctor, community leader ‘Doc’ Edmunds,
79, dies

A staunch supporter of Ypsilanti, a man dedicated to preservation of the community and a doctor who made house calls because he believed his patients deserved personal care died Monday evening.

Dr. William (Bill) Edmunds, 79, knew all his life he wanted to be a doctor, said his wife, Nathalie.

Beer Fest moving
to Riverside Park

The Summer Beer Festival is headed to Depot Town again Saturday.

The Michigan Brewers Guild has chosen Ypsilanti to hold its festival because of the great response they have received from people attending the event in previous years.

Clerk candidate has
misdemeanor in past

Samantha Adkins-Buescher, who is a candidate for Ypsilanti Township clerk, has a criminal conviction on her record, but Buescher said that fact doesn’t tell the whole story.

There have been two legal proceedings in which Buescher was involved, one as a witness and the other as the defendant. Rumors about Buescher’s past have been circulating since she announced she was running for office.

Program
teaches
gardening
to young

The Ypsilanti Roots & Shoots Youth Garden Program started in May and is going strong, says one of the coordinators, Paula Fields, director of the Freighthouse Farmers’ Market.

Fields and Amanda Edmonds, founder of Growing Hope, a nonprofit that promotes education, food production and life empowerment through community-based gardening, have partnered with the city of Ypsilanti to bring the program to children.
