Storms delay PRIDE

Ypsilanti PRIDE was canceled, not because of lack of interest, but because of rising waters and inclement weather last Saturday.
"Basically, we (the committee) started the day around
6:30 a.m. communicating with one another (about the weather)," said Brett
St. Pierre, chair of the ninth annual community-wide clean-up day.

Lincoln nixes
summer school

The Lincoln Consolidated School Board nixed summer school Monday night in response to a tight budget, test results indicating minimal improvements from the extra efforts and public support for at a forum May 17 for shaving the program.
To cater to at-risk students affected by the changes,
the district will draw from successful programs utilized by other
districts including adding extra tutoring several nights per week during
the school year and administrative monitoring.

Lincoln chemistry
teacher honored

Lincoln High School chemistry teacher Cynthia Maxwell said she was pleased and surprised to be named the Huron Valley Section of the American Chemical Society and Pfizer Global R & D’s High School Chemistry Teacher of the Year.
The award is given annually to the outstanding chemistry
teacher in Washtenaw County and is jointly sponsored by the two
organizations.

Storms knock out power, flood streets, roads By DAVE MELCHIOR The Ypsilanti area apparently escaped the worst of the weather over the weekend. Officials in both the city and the township reported
this week that damage and problems from severe weather that moved through
Southeastern Michigan beginning early Friday morning was not nearly as bad
in the immediate Ypsilanti area as what was reported from other areas.
