Guide rates EMU Eastern Michigan University is one of two Mid-American Conference schools named a "Best Value for the Tuition Dollar" by the "Unofficial, Unbiased Guide to the 328 Most Interesting Colleges 2004. The other MAC school was Miami of Ohio. EMU also was one of only two Michigan schools to make the list. The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor was the other Michigan school. EMU was one of 59 of the 328 schools in the guide to be named a "Best Value." Authors Trent Anderson and Seppy Basili surveyed high school guidance counselors who named EMU a best value institution by weighing the cost against the quality of education. "Eastern Michigan is truly a bargain," said Courtney McAnuff, vice president for enrollment services at EMU. "It’s a gem for students. Our university is affordable and very diverse with students from more than 100 foreign countries. Nowhere else at any public university can you get small class instruction for such a low cost. They (the authors) are just verifying what we have been saying for a long time." The second annual college guide publishes the results from a national telephone survey of public, private and Catholic high school guidance counselors from 328 institutions. In addition to statistical information, guidance counselors provided their insights about the colleges and universities with which they were most familiar. The guide is free of paid advertising from profiled schools. The survey was conducted by Market Measurement, a national market research firm that utilized a random sample of US. high schools obtained from Dun & Bradstreet. It is available in bookstores for $20. |
