Ypsilanti teacher
contract approved

The Ypsilanti School Board voted Monday to approve a new contract for district teachers, ending a process that has dragged on for more than a year.

And while the Ypsilanti Education Association is happy to have a contract, they are still not satisfied with the treatment they received from the district.

City Rec to continue
through December

Despite pending layoffs and a reduction of services, the Ypsilanti Recreation Department is planning to continue operations through December with funding from grants, donations and community organizations.   

Shannon Stumbo Bellers, recreation director and assistant city manager, presented a report on the status of the recreation department to the Ypsilanti City Council Tuesday night.

Audit to include
University House

The Michigan Auditor General’s office is expected to initiate an audit of Eastern Michigan University with special attention on the construction and financing of University House.

The $3.5-million University House has been a source of controversy since its inception, said State Rep. Ruth Ann Jamnick, D-Ypsilanti Township, who asked that the audit be performed.

Students heading back
for EMU fall semester

If traffic seems a little heavier or the line at the grocery a little longer this weekend, it might just be because thousands of Eastern Michigan University students will be returning to campus for the opening of the fall semester classes on Sept. 3.

Ward Mullens, manager of news services for EMU, said this week that about half of EMU’s 24,500 students live in campus housing or apartments surrounding the university.

Guide rates EMU
tuition ‘Best Value’

Eastern Michigan University is one of two Mid-American Conference schools named a "Best Value for the Tuition Dollar" by the "Unofficial, Unbiased Guide to the 328 Most Interesting Colleges 2004.

The other MAC school was Miami of Ohio.

multi-state air tour

Fly back to the golden age of aviation when the recreation of a National Air Tour begins at Willow Run Airport Sept. 8 and ends there Sept. 24.

From 1925 through 1931 National Air Tours landed and departed from the Detroit area at the former Ford Airport, which is now an automobile proving grounds.
