Longo pleads (EDITOR’S NOTE: The Newport, Ore., News-Times is providing the Courier with coverage of the Christian Longo case.) By STEVE CARD Christian Longo, formerly of Ypsilanti, pleaded guilty last week to three counts of aggravated murder in Oregon’s Lincoln County Circuit Court. The plea came Friday at a surprise hearing in the case. Lincoln County District Attorney Bernice Barnett issued
a press release late Thursday afternoon announcing the hearing, which took
place in the courtroom of Lincoln County Circuit Court Judge Robert
Huckleberry.
State budget cuts By SARA L. BILLS Ypsilanti Township will need to make ends meet with less money than originally anticipated for the coming year. There will be a shortfall in the township’s state revenue sharing to the tune of 3.5 percent for fiscal year 2003. The Ypsilanti Township Board of Trustees at its regular
meeting Tuesday night approved proposed budget amendments for fiscal year
2003 to compensate for the difference in revenue sharing money.
Willow Run High By DAVE MELCHIOR Willow Run High School and school district officials are investigating an incident in which a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl engaged in a sexual act in a hallway of the high school. Willow Run Superintendent John Hansen said Monday the incident occurred during the school day Friday. He said because of the nature of the situation and the
two students involved officials could not discuss details because that
information could reveal the identity of the girl involved.
CBS correspondent Lesley Stahl, who has covered national affairs and politics and has been co-editor of "60 Minutes" since March 1991, is the next Washtenaw Economic Club speaker.
The club meets at 11 a.m. for networking with lunch at noon March 10 at the Ypsilanti Marriott. Prior to joining 60 Minutes, Stahl served as CBS News White House correspondent during the Carter, Reagan, and part of the Bush presidencies. Her reports appeared frequently on the CBS Evening News,
first with Walter Cronkite, then with Dan Rather and other CBS News
